Not Long Now!

In under a weeks time the 18th annual running of Targa Tasmania will start at the Country Club and considering the current economic climate, this years entry list is amazing with 12 more competition cars (6 classic & 6 modern) than last year and further proof that the massive course change for 2008 that saw the event based more in Launceston was a major success.

The total field is sitting at 275 due to smaller Tour and Rookie fields.

All up, Targa Tasmania 2009 is looking good and we sincerely thank each and every one of you who will be on the roads next week for your loyalty to the Ultimate Tarmac Rally

Floating Base Times

They are now set and can be found in Bulletin 1. Just in case you missed them they are:

  • Paloona
  • Cethana
  • Roseberry
  • Rinadeena
  • Strahan
  • Mt. Arrowsmith
  • Tungatinah

This change has brought about much excitement and anticipation. It will certainly change the dynamic of the event for the front runners in all competitions and ensure that the winners won't be decided until the field hits Hobart.

Just a clarification: The Floating Base Time (FBT) ONLY comes into play if the fastest car on the stage breaks the pre set standard base time. If this is 7 min 30 secs for example and the fastest car does 7 min 40 secs, the 7 min 30 sec time will be used to calculate your penalty time.

Love the Beast

Love the Beast has been a huge success around the country with its season extended in all cities across the country.

For those of you who have seen it, you will undoubtedly remember Darryl & Rebecca and their beast. Well, Darryl & Rebecca have kindly accepted an invitation to attend the Presentation Lunch to talk about their love of Ford and Targa.

Greening Australia

Will be at documentation for those of you who wish to offset their emissions this year. The fee is tax deductible and you will get to display stickers on your car letting the world know that you car for the environment.

Please consider offsetting as you come through documentation.

This year is the first step towards compulsory offsetting from 2011.

Royal Flying Doctor Service

You may think they are just in the outback of Australia but they have a fantastic service also operating in Tasmania.

We will be helping them increase the awareness of their service throughout this year's event.

Naturally the RFDS needs your support so please consider donating to them via the brochure in your competitor bag or simply clicking the link below to download the brochure.

We hope that you will never need their amazing service but it's nice to know that they are there just in case.

Recently, the RFDS did an amazing job rescuing one of Targa's great personalities, Nick Duigan from Southern Cross after Nick and his father had a light plane crash.

Nick is now an Ambassador of the service and through this association we have decided to promote the RFDS in Tasmania

Targa is driving support on the ground, to keep the flying doctor up there! Please join us and support the Royal Flying Doctor Service
