Targa Wrest Point Cracks 100 Entries

Well there were the doubters but entries continue to come in for the inaugural running of Targa Wrest Point. The pleasing thing for us is the amount of Tasmanian entries we have received along with a number of new entries, which will give the event a very different feel and there could be a couple of surprises along the way.

Local knowledge is sure to be an advantage, especially on the stages that have not been run before.

With less than 30 spots left, we ask you to not wait too much longer to enter if you are considering joining what will be the largest short course field assembled since the 2005 Rally Tasmania.

Entering is as easy as clicking the link below and if you have any enquiries don't hesitate to call Helen Coad in the office on (03) 6221 8866 or email at Helen.coad@octagon.com

Our official notes provider, Rally Notes also has pace notes ready. To purchase your set simply call Ron on 0418 145 707

Targa Tasmania Course Close to Completion

The course is nearing completion and we will have this out soon and the regs are now available simply by clicking the link below:

http://www.targatasmania.com.au/Competitors/Regulations.html

As part of our policy to share Targa with as many communities as possible to ensure all of Tasmania receives benefit from the event, we will have three new lunch break locations in 2009.

After many years of supporting the event with the provision of amazing stages like South Riana and Gunns Plains, the Central Coast area will see its first lunch break in the booming seaside town of Penguin.

Beaconsfield has seen a street stage for the last two years and whilst the stage is not in the schedule next year, the famous mining town will host a lunch break for the first time.

To break up Day 5 a little better, Hamilton will host a lunch break for the first time and after travelling through the town every year since Targa started, the locals will be very excited to see the cars stop.

Will the V-Spec Make It To Targa Tasmania in 2009?

Already showing that it is more than a competitive car, the R35 GTR is sure to be a force at Targa Tasmania next year, and if names are anything to go by the Victory Specification is staking an early claim. The big question now is can anyone get their hands on a V-Spec and get it ready for late April?

The debate rages as to how fast the GTR is at Nurburgring but one thing that is a certainty is that the V-Spec will be even faster and therefore could be the car to beat next year.

To give you a glimpse of the V-Spec check out the pic below and click on the link to see some footage from the world famous Nurburgring.

Targa Corsica

2009 will already see two Targa events but after a recent trip to the WRC in Corsica by Event Director, Mark Perry there will now be a third! Targa Corsica will alternate with the famous WRC event; the inaugural event being held in October next year.

The new event will be a true sister event to Targa Tasmania and will provide a massive amount of promotion for our event and should see a large increase in European entries here, particularly in 2010.

It is envisaged that a plate will be made to be awarded to any competitor who completes both courses in the same year.

Targa Corsica will have its own plate and use the same timing system. They are planning on running a 100km stage last used by the Group B cars 25 years ago. Don't Miss it.

There will also be discounts available. More detail will be announced in the months ahead.

Exciting times lay ahead in 2009

Bana Documentary

In what will be the single biggest promotion of Targa Tasmania ever, Eric Bana's documentary about his car, his mates and his desire to conquer Targa will be released in cinemas worldwide in March next year.

With Jeremy Clarkson, Jay Leno and Dr. Phil all playing pivotal roles (along cameo's from Perry and Tim Lynas), the doco is sure to generate much interest around the world.

With the spectacular scenery of Tasmania as a backdrop, anyone who has competed in Targa will leave the cinema feeling very special about being a part of such an amazing event.

Bana certainly portrays Targa as a unique and tough event and something only the bravest will attempt to compete in.

Like we said, exciting times lay ahead in 2009

Hall of Fame for Targa Cars

We have set up a Hall of Fame for competitors to forever acknowledge those who have genuinely climbed the Targa Tasmania mountain.

What about the cars? A long time competitor said to us recently. We thought what a fantastic idea.

So, from 2009 we will also acknowledge the events famous cars as well. The problem we have is that we have not recorded the history of cars like that of competitors.

That's where you come in!!

We have decided that any vehicle that has won 10 Targa Plates or competed in 15 events for it's owner or owners will be inducted into the Hall of Fame with 15 Plates seeing that vehicle become a Hall of Fame Legend.

If you know of any such vehicles and their current location, please email Mark Perry at mark.perry@octagon.com

Hall of Fame Dinner Date Change

Whilst on the subject of the Hall of Fame, after much competitor feedback, we have decided to hold this gala dinner on the Sunday night May 3 to enable more competitors to attend.

With the field heading from Strahan again in `09, the dinner should start on time (7.30 for 8.00pm) and will mean that you can go to the dinner without the cost of another night's accommodation.

It will return to a formal Black Tie Dinner and will be a true celebration of the legends of Targa Tasmania.

The night will remain a celebration of our legends with all 2009 award winners being acknowledged at the presentation lunch on Monday.

Tickets are only $120 (3 course meal and drinks) so come along and support your fellow competitors. It may be you one day.

Targa Tasmania & Targa Wrest Point Course Notes

Regardless of your intentions, whether to be ultra competitive or to simply enjoy Targa in your own way, there is a distinct advantage in knowing what is over the crest, what is around the corner or in fact how sharp the corner is.

Over the last fourteen years, many competitors have chosen to use course notes as an aid towards enjoying a safer event. Course Notes, or pace notes as the more serious and professional competitors refer to them are not difficult to understand or use.
